    Job Description

    Telepin is hiring a Technical Writer to create quality product documentation for its Mobile Financial Services products. Documentation will include, but is not limited to:

    • Release Notes
    • User Guides
    • Deployment Guides
    • Feature Descriptions

    The Technical Writer will work with software developers and engineers to understand the technical aspects of the feature or product and create draft versions of documents for review. The Technical Writer will incorporate the review comments and other feedback to produce customer-ready final document versions. All documentation will follow Telepin’s standard format templates but the Technical Writer is encouraged to suggest template changes that make the documentation more readable, usable, and understandable.

    The Technical Writer will have at least 4 years’ experience working in a software development environment creating quality technical documentation. The candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the interview process and by submitting examples of technical documents upon request. The primary language of Telepin’s documentation is English, therefore the applicant must possess an excellent command of written and spoken English.

    The position is based in our Ottawa office located in Kanata, Ontario.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain customer-facing product documentation for complex software with minimal editorial support
    • Use subject matter expert interview techniques, analyze source material (including technical standards), and participate in development meetings to gather content
    • Prioritize work to meet deadlines and communicate schedule with management
    • Review and implement feedback from subject matter experts
    • Work proactively to research, develop, and test task-oriented procedures for use cases
    • Log bugs found during the documentation process
    • Follow established documentation standards (style guides and in-house standard templates)


    • 4+ years of technical writing experience in a software environment
    • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, or Professional Writing ; OR
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a Technical Communication certificate or courses in technical communication
    • Proficiency in explaining concepts and instructions clearly and concisely
    • Proficiency in subject matter expert interview techniques
    • Ability to learn complex software technology
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
    • Self-motivated, helpful, and continuous improvement attitude toward your work and team.
    • Strong command of the structure of the English language (grammar and mechanics are essential)

    The following would be an asset

    • Experience working in a structured or topic-based authoring environment
    • Knowledge of Internet protocols, technical standards (RFCs and TRs), and related networking software
    • Familiarity with XML, JSON, HTML, Java, Git, and JIRA.
    • Experience with Agile software development processes
