Testing Mobile Payments at the Golden Arches

recent article in PC Magazine reported that McDonald’s is currently testing mobile payments in a trial with PayPal. The trial is taking place in 30 locations in France and neither McDonald’s or PayPal has made an official announcement, which is a great indicator of just how hot the mobile payments market really is.

As the world’s largest brands work to roll out mobile payments solutions, particularly in the western world, everyone is going to be watching and waiting to see what solutions are implemented and who is first to capture market share.

With the news of the MCX venture last week, along with Starbucks partnership with Square, it is clear there’s going to be lots of developments in the mobile payments market in the coming months.

With 30,000 McDonalds restaurants worldwide, PayPal stands to gain an extreme market share, as the PC Mag article points out, possibly more than any other mobile payments company in operation. That will make for an interesting battle for market dominance as it takes on MCX and Square.
