The GSMA recently released a new report, Platforms for Successful Mobile Money Services which examines the state of mobile money around the world. The report provides great insights, in particular the fact that while the industry grows, only experience and consumer demand will help produce fully featured, reliable solutions.

The GSMA team researched vendors and service providers for the report and Telepin was included as part of this research. I was happy to comment how as services evolve they realize that they need more than the basic technology they started out with, and how that lack of technology for things such as billing can limit growth.

All and all the report provides a deep look at how the industry will grow, and what technical layers and functional requirements are needed to take things to the next level. The last part of the paper does an outstanding job of outlining how to develop RFPs to ensure that functional requirements are met and that the right provider is selected. It’s a must read for everyone in the mobile money industry and helps to shed some light on the importance of selecting the right platform from the get-go instead of just viewing mobile money as a basic value added service.
