We are gearing up for Mobile Money Asia 2013 in Kuala Lumpur this week, and looking forward presenting with our customer Nationwide Microbank on the success of MiCash.

While we’ve talked here about MiCash before and the innovative use of mobile money in Papua New Guinea, the presentation is going share some of the success strategies used to make mobile money a reality. What is particularly interesting about Papua New Guinea is the fact that 85% of its population live in rural areas, and an estimated 90% of its citizens are unbanked. Mobile phones are quickly gaining in popularity with 34% of adults owning phones in 2011 according to the Lowy Institute. The success of MiCash is truly remarkable when you consider the paradigm shift that has to occur for mobile money to take hold when the majority of people operate outside traditional banking systems.

If you are at Mobile Money Asia, you can join us on January 29th at 10:50 a.m. to hear about how Nationwide Microbank and Telepin teamed up on this innovative mobile money solution.
